
KAMOINGE: Revealing the Face of Katrina
On November 26, 2007, Kamoinge, a collective of African American photographers (www.kamoinge.com), held an opening for a show entitled: Kamoinge: Revealing the Face of Katrina at Calumet Photo (www.calumetphoto.com) in New York City. The show included the works of: Salimah Ali, Gerald Cyrus, Collette V. Fournier, Wayne Lawrence, Herb Robinson, Frank Stewart, Shawn Walker, John Pinderhughes, Radcliffe Roye, and Russell K. Frederick. The exhibit, which was open through January 2008 and brought more visitors than any other previous show at the Calumet HP Gallery, included a variety of dynamic portraits and abstract pieces, using camera formats from 35mm to 8”x10”.
